15 ways to be a travel blogger

People like to ask how to succeed as a travel blogger. Here’s the overwhelmingly popular things that travel bloggers do to try to get noticed, to inflate their ego or to “succeed.” Success is always in the eye of the beholder, and I’m trying not to be too judgmental in this post—though, admittedly, some of these actions are unsurprisingly shady.

  1. Only follow & engage with people more important than you on Twitter
  2. Writes posts that begin with a number
  3. Post promiscuous photos of yourself
  4. Engage in something controversial
  5. Write about travel blogging
  6. Take photos from Pinterest and publish them on your Facebook
  7. Be especially friendly with anyone who works in the travel & tourism PR industry
  8. Share other bloggers’ content (automate this process for maximum effect)
  9. Create a secret Facebook group to share/promote your posts among like-minded bloggers (and generate easy FB likes)
  10. Automate your social media to send out content every 2 minutes
  11. Buy an online press release
  12. Buy Facebook fans
  13. Buy Twitter followers
  14. Turn all your blog posts into a PDF and submit to Scribd
  15. Run multiple websites
