had a delicious prenzlauerberg-style coffee (made by my roommate!), skyped with his girl ida about traveling & travel blogging. was running late for my afternoon apt-viewing, so we rescheduled to tomorrow morning (morning!).

went and got a haircut - only €7 - she didn’t speak english but we managed. rode my bicycle around for a little while, bought a new pair of cheap underwear. went back and did a load of laundry, skyped with kiera (my sister) and brother-in-law, and my adorable niece.

rode my bicycle to friedricshain, met up with dan & audrey @umarket at the beer festival briefly - was on my way to an apartment viewing near mortizplatz. pretty good place, think i’d take it if it was offered to me.

rode my bike home, different route than usual - beautiful sunny day. came home, skyped with my dad, hung up my laundry. hung out at the apartment, watched a bunch of youtube videos, episodes of community. cooked some pasta. tried to watch a movie but couldn’t get interested.

muffin for breakfast. then almost immediately leftover pasta for lunch. figured out some of the confusing paperwork i need to fill out, then left to go clothes shopping.

bought way too much at h&M. came home to drop it off and then went out again to see an apartment. the place was nice, across the street from a formerly “occupied” house (ie, squatters) but not so certain i’ll take it. sun finally came out around 6pm.

back at the apartment, hung out with elsa & sebastian. spoke to a few friends online, then heard from glenda & parker. arranged to meet them later tonight to go to a club. met them around 1am or so, hung out at their place, then left to find food. never made it to a club. home by 4:30am. now sleep.

breakfast in the kitchen, on my computer. elsa translated my job contract. sent off some e-mails.

went shopping for clothes i could wear to work. rode my bicycle. didn’t find anything at h&m and took me forever to find a pair of pants. really difficult b/c although men here are skinny like me, they are much more tall. got caught in the rain with my bicycle, but i survived.

came back and had to reply to some urgent emails. minor panic about this job thing, but i think i’m okay with it now. also, i love the internet. put out a call for help and had a very nice chat discussing my latest mini-dilemma. people are nice.

made a massive to do list and realized there are about a million things i need to get done if i’m going to actually be living in berlin for a while. so much to do! no time for sleep. 5am.

went to volkspark friedrichshain (city park friedrichshain) today on my bicycle. met johan who had emailed me a few weeks ago b/c he was living in berlin, too. we hung out there for a while, enjoyed a beer and then i went on my way home.

stopped at mauer park and read a bit of my book, but slight allergy attack and then i went home. cooked some pasta sauce dinner and skyped with my mom before heading out for the evening.

met glenda and parker nearby at 1am and then we went to dr pongs for a few beers. next we went to the gay dance club nearby but only stayed a short while. had a falafel and now i’m home, sometime around 4:30am. short night, but fun enough.

woke up and then quickly decided to embrace the summer day that finally has arrived! showered and was out of here within an hour, on my bicycle. rode 8.5km to görlitzer park (after picking up a chili cheeseburger at burgermeister http://www.burger-meister.de/). sat and read my book there all afternoon. photo:

stopped to pick up a loaf of bread on the way home so i could make some pasta, but then it turned out my friends glenda & parker were back in town & they invited me over for dinner. grabbed a bottle of wine and headed over there. enjoyed good company and conversation - we talked about the origin of languages even though none of us knew the answers. home shortly after midnight. (+42 hipster points)

woke up at 7:30am because (no joke) there was a bird flying around in my bedroom. must’ve been stuck in my room since the afternoon the day before because the window had been closed for a while. i let it out the window. mystery solved (+30 hipster points)

was half-awake from 10am until noon. genevieve and i watched an episode of the office (it was crap) and then 30 rock (it was awesome), ate some strawberries. genevieve left; i grabbed a bagel sandwich outside and then sat in a park for a little while to read. also stopped into the new(ish) Shakespeare’s bookstore (all english books) in prenzlauerberg (same brand as the one in prague). it was awesome and i can already tell i’ll be spending serious money there. so long as i get back into reading mode (+14 hipster points)

went back home, genevieve called and came back over. then we went to go get eyebrow piercings, but she decided against hers at the last moment. so it was just me. €40 and now i’ve got a piercing! awesomee!!!!!! (+452 hipster points)

arranged to meet parker, glenda’s boyfriend, at the circus hostel to go out for dinner. went to dolores for super giant american burritos. tasty! then we went for a beer at this place called “pony bar” over on Alte Schonhauserstraße. pretty cool, trendy place - definitely would go back there. left for home by 11pm (+12 hipster points)

definitely slept in this day. genevieve came over around 3pm and then we were going to try and meet tony at mauer park for the flea market around 5, but we didn’t find him. it was rainy and pretty miserably wet, but still enjoyed the flea market. almost bought a joy division t-shirt. (+7 hipster points)

i stuffed myself on a baked potato (jacket potato) with all the fillin’s at the flea market, too. it was also peruvian independence day so there was lots of peruvian stuff happening. also, as the flea market was closing, bought a tomato-mozarella wrap & spinach-cheese pastry for €1 each. deal! (+14 hipster points)

genevieve and i bought a bottle of dry red wine on the way back. then watched the movie CATFISH. which was a totally awesome movie. watched a few episodes of 30 rock afterwards (i had to go out and buy a second bottle of wine - also we broke 1 wine glass) and left the apartment around 11pm to meet up with tony at the indie bar White Trash. Didn’t end up going inside WT because it was €3 cover and we were all looking for something else. walked by Kaffe Burger the club around the corner but no one was there yet. (+57 hipster points)

since it was 5 minutes to midnight, we decided to run upstairs to the WOMBAR for a happy hour beer pitcher. then we played guess the nationality of the people at the tables near us. i guessed on first try at the group of italians. there was a guy we thought might’ve been gay, but wasn’t. (+4 hipster points)

then we went to kaffee burger and danced for a while. pretty good music and it got crowded - definitely a fun evening. music included amy winehouse, so that was a win. after a while, we were getting tired. went outside for some fresh air and then decided to get some food. i had dönner and genevieve ordered a pizza. tony was going to head to another bar near where i lived, so we all took a cab. tony’s bar looked really lame on the outside so he didn’t even bother coming in and instead he bought a pizza at the place around the corner and we bought 2 more bottles of red wine. watched 30 rock until nearly 5am on the couch. went to sleep. (+110 hipster points)

today was the 2nd day this week that i didn’t drink any alcohol at all. woke up late as per usual, to a text message. plan was to meet genevieve at the veggie/vegan summer festival at alexanderplatz. of course it was raining. but i scored a pretty tasty veggie burger after nearly eating plastic on a spring roll. (+2 hipster points)

bought some fresh strawberries and an umbrella on my way home. cleaned house a bit, watched a movie revolutionary road which was terribly depressing. rain still hasn’t stopped. had leftover goulash and then also some pasta and a slice of cheese. hardly did anything all afternoon/evening in fact. (+1 hipster points)

well well well! you’re getting a good old fashioned live update from me. i’m drunk (or was a few hours ago), it’s 5:30am, and now you get to hear about my day.

woke up at 2pm. yep. that late. it was rainy & cloudy all day so i couldn’t ever tell what time it was. helped clean the apartment - my job was the bathroom. had some tea, german waffles with date honey from dubai. internet was broken for a while, but i managed to upload some photos to flickr. (+3 hipster points)

we were supposed to have a party at my apartment, but plans changed because elsa found out she had a flight early the next morning. instead, elsa & sebastian cooked german goulash and 2 of their friends came over. i heard from genevieve later and we agreed to meet up in kreuzberg at 11pm. sent the message to tony, and all was good. (+1 hipster point)

met tony and genevieve and genevieve’s friend edward at the u-bahn. we went to this barbie deinhof gay bar. it wasn’t the one i thought it was, but it was nice enough. saw a couple people kiss in there, so that was sweet. a man came by selling indian samosas. i bought some of course. (+4 hipster points)

next on the agenda was an indie dance club called MAGNET but instead of trying to find it ourselves, we figured we’d go to the u-bahn stop and ask people there. turns out there was a massive dance party (photos & videos to come) literally at the bottom of the stairs in this u-bahn station. it was unbelievable so we bought some €1 beers at the shop in the station and then danced there for a while. met an american girl from hawaii and a german guy who were also hanging out there. invited them to follow us to the club after the police broke up the party. (+45 hipster points)

got to magnet, the indie dance club, and waited in line. inside, literally as we walked in, they were playing THE WOMBATS. awesome… i almost died of happiness! it was maybe 1am now and the music was absolutely the best. i kissed a very tall german boy on the dance floor, which was cool because this wasn’t a gay bar or club. left the club with my friends at 4am. grabbed a dönner and then caught a ride home on the metro at quarter to 5. and back in my warm, cozy apartment by 5:30am. an absolutely excellent night! (+134 hipster points)

total: doesn’t matter. i danced to some band called XX, the wombats & yeah yeah yeahs. plus i kissed a boy.

woke up today with tony in my bed and genevieve on the couch. found the photostrip we’d made at 5am and i got to keep it. showered and left to go back to genevieve’s place to pick up MY NEW BICYCLE ! lunch with kamiel, yeon & fabian was crappy vegetable pizza with brussels sprouts - no joke. (+1000 hipster points)

biked all the way from neokolln to prenzlauer berg. i am awesome and my legs are tired. was going to nap but instead played on the internet, read the news. (+255 hipster points)

was going to go to an indie rock dance club called dazzle with tony, but that fell through. then was also going to go see the movie tree of life with genevieve but then that fell through, too. instead, i watched 2 movies home alone and then went out for pizza with sebastian at midnight. this pizza was remarkably better and cheaper. (-800 hipster points)

then i stayed up until 5am for no reason, just dicking around on the internet - starting to feel caught up on world news, though. and watched some stupid youtube videos.  (+2 hipster points)

lunch with my friend tony - pho bo (vietnamese). then met up with genevieve & yeon at the c/o gallery. really awesome polaroid exhibit. the other half was this photographer who reminded me of david lachapelle, but was way more depressing. i didn’t really like the stuff except for one photo, and like i said, it was all depressing and pretty monochromatic & a bit boring. (+3 hipster points)

tony and i went clothes shopping afterwards and i almost bought a €100 pair of jeans at ben sherman. but i didn’t. yet. they were beautiful. coffee & then shoe shopping and then headed to the couchsurfing meetup at 8pm. (+4 hipster points)

was supposed to meet kamiel, yeon & genevieve there but they called at the last minute and said they weren’t. ended up running into fabian and his friend kate, though, and we spent one beer sitting outside talking about social media, blogging, nonprofits. really interesting stuff and things i feel comfortable talking authoritatively on. (+5 hipster points)

after the one beer, tony & i went for cheap pasta and then back to my apartment. picked up a few beers on the way. genevieve arranged to meet us here at like midnight and then one more beer and we were off for the night! went to this gay indie club night “berlin hilton” at nbi bar, not too far from where i live. danced all night to a mixed bag of good & bad music. lots of pretty boys. walked home around 5am, stopped for a falafel of course. sleepover at my place! (+4 hipster points)

hmm. well today started with several SMS messages, but i didn’t fully get out of bed til nearly 2pm. internet’d, fresh bread was made by my roommate. quick sandwich & then i was off to meet a new friend at a restaurant. (+2 hipster points)

but not before a 5pm email from the job i’d interviewed for on monday. one word: success! trust me, i’ll have more to say later. (+25 yuppie points)

the restaurant, chipps, was good & vegetarian. i was practically ecstatic after that email so it would’ve been hard to get me down. genevieve and i then bought some beers and drank ‘em in gorlitzer park, talked a lot about berlin, music & gay stuff. jazz jam session at edelweiss a little bit later and several more beers. home by 1 something (after a dönner) and then a skype call to my mom. (+4 hipster points)

total for day: doesn’t matter, it was awesome - i got a job offer!
